Using and referencing data from the NBN Gateway
This advice and the examples given will help you when using, referencing and acknowledging data or information that you use from the Gateway website in written documents and publications. Access to and use of material accessed through the Gateway is governed by the Gateway Terms and Conditions.
a) subject to paragraph 2.5 of the Gateway Terms and Conditions you must only publish the level of detail that a public user has to the records on data.nbn.org.uk. This is the level of detail you have without logging in to the site. If (as a registered user) you are granted enhanced access to restricted information you must not disseminate, deliberately compromise or otherwise infringe the confidentiality of such information without first obtaining written permission from the relevant Data Provider.
b) subject to paragraph 2.4 of the Gateway Terms and Conditions you must acknowledge the relevant data providers that are sharing their records with you through data.nbn.org.uk. In addition, where you make specific use of or reference to a particular wildlife record you must acknowledge the Original Recorder [where their name is made available]. We would also like you to acknowledge the Gateway (data.nbn.org.uk).
c) subject to paragraph 2.8 of the Gateway Terms and Conditions any document or product that makes use of data from the Gateway must contain a statement that the Data Provider, Original Recorder [where identified], and the NBN Trust bear no responsibility for any further analysis or interpretation of that material, data and/or information.

Referencing for web mapping services
All the Web Mapping Services (WMS) support a list of data providers in the GetCapabilities response, which is the standard location for such information. If you are using WMS, you will need to extract this data and display it on your website, so that the relevant data providers are credited.
