Using the NBN Gateway at the Open University
The Open University is using the NBN Gateway as part of two of its environment courses.
Neighbourhood Nature
(code S159; this course was developed as part of OPAL, which runs alongside iSpot)
In S159 students learn how to search NBN to find out about biodiversity at specific localities and about distribution of particular species. They are tested on their use of NBN in the assessment questions.

The Environmental Web
(code U316)
This course refers students to the NBN for information on species, since 2003 if not earlier. It receives 500 third level students per year approximately.
