Spatial Planning in Scotland – Forth Valley GIS & Ayshire

Forth Valley

Forth Valley GIS (Geographic Information Systems) provide Geographic Information and technical services to Falkirk, Clackmannanshire and Stirling Councils. They have been involved in developing options for the establishment of biodiversity data services to those partners plus the Loch Lomond National Park and Scottish Natural Heritage.  The NBN has been involved in the development of options by presenting and raising awareness of what we have to offer in this area and specifically, promoting the screening interface developed by the Innovation in Biodiversity Fund (IBF) planning screening tool. The preferred option shows the NBN Gateway at the centre of the technical architecture with data management and recorder engagement provided by Forth Valley GIS themselves.  We expect the work to continue into 2010 and will bring you more detail in due course.

North & South Ayrshire

Local authorities in North & South Ayrshire and East Ayrshire have begun to investigate the possibility of using data from the NBN Gateway to support relevant activities. These will include LBAP, planning; the Core Path Framework; development management; statutory Environmental Impact Assessment and Strategic Environmental Assessment. We have been involved in helping them identify their data needs, relevant data sources and securing access to those datasets through the Gateway. Work in 2010 will concentrate on developing tools to support specific business needs, particularly around spatial planning
