Free Indicia Workshops

Free Indicia Workshops

Places are available on two free Indicia training workshops taking place at the Biological Records Centre at CEH Wallingford:

Indicia for Developers, Thursday 25th October 2012

This workshop will introduce developers from all biological recording sectors to writing code which interacts with or extends Indicia.  It will include training around the Indicia framework and how it is being implemented, and discuss issues with shared development and scalability.  It will provide information essential for people who want to understand Indicia in depth, either to work on the core product or to develop advanced implementations of Indicia for their own organisation or for others.
Places are limited to a maximum of 12 participants, who should have a basic understanding of PHP, JavaScript and SQL, familiarity with the content of the Instant Indicia tutorials, a commitment to contribute to the Indicia open source project and experience of using or developing biodiversity data management tools and software.

Advanced Indicia, Thursday 24th January 2013

The aim of this workshop is to enable participants with some experience of Indicia to develop their skills and build advanced recording websites using Indicia.

Places are limited to a maximum of 12 participants who should have basic PHP and SQL skills, familiarity with the content of the Instant Indicia tutorials and a commitment to developing or improving an Indicia-based online recording portal for their organisation.

Both workshops will be delivered by John van Breda (Biodiverse IT) and Jim Bacon (Biological Records Centre) and will run from 10am to 5pm.  These are advanced workshops aimed at participants with some programming experience or familiarity with Indicia, but we hope to run another introductory Instant Indicia workshop in the coming year.
