75 million!

The 75 millionth record uploaded to the NBN Gateway is that of Impatiens glandulifera (Himalayan Balsam).

The dataset containing the record has been compiled from a public survey by Nottinghamshire Biodiversity Action Group and submitted on their behalf by Nottinghamshire Biological and Geological Records Centre.  This dataset has full download access and although this species is widespread across England this dataset adds a completely new 10km square (SK62) to the NBN Gateway.

It's great to see the addition of this dataset, not only because it takes us another step closer to our aim of “making all biological records freely and easily available to everyone”, but also because it comes from another of our local partners and also Nottingham is home to the NBN Trust Secretariat!

Nottinghamshire Biodiversity Action Group is a partnership of voluntary, statutory and community groups working together to conserve and enhance the wildlife of Nottinghamshire to the benefit of people. Further information can be found on the website

Non Native Species

More information on non-native species can be found on the Non-Native Species website, where factsheets for the various species can be downloaded.  Download the factsheet for Himalayan Balsam

Here you can also find out more about the RISC (Recording Invasive Species Counts) project which is asking people to get involved in recording their non native species sightings online
